Cecil Rhodes staying after all

But particularly regarding Zimbabwe, these caring people were not very vocal when Mugabe was ruling by violence, murdering, plundering and wreaking the country that the person who they despise built up.
It could be argued that Mugabe was a product of the intrinsically believed superiority of one section of society believing they have the inherited right to subjugate another section of society.
After growing up in a Zimbabwe convulsed by the legacy of colonialism, when I got to Oxford I realised how many British people still failed to see how empire had shaped lives like mine – as well as their own.
Rhodes’s colonising forces dispossessed millions of Africans of their land and created an apartheid state that endured for 90 years.
These were perfect lessons for a world in which one race thought itself worthy of violently subjugating another. After independence, Saints’s ways were embraced by a Black middle class that had imbibed colonial culture and internalised that culture’s sense of superiority.
Black people were denied the franchise, their movements were controlled by a punitive internal passport system, and they died at heinous rates from chronic malnutrition, high infant mortality and limited access to basic health services. Meanwhile, white people in Rhodesia enjoyed the highest per capita number of private swimming pools anywhere in the world.
...colonialism had furnished not only Zimbabwe but Britain, too, with fiercely held national mythologies. In both countries, colonialism had left behind ideas and institutions that stood in the way of a more honest reckoning with the past.

I love all these joke liberals driving around in the BM's, Audis, VW's, Nissans and Mitsubishis' in their Hugo Boss designer scents and and clothes, snacking on their Nestle choc bars, and using their various Jap electronic devices to tell everyone else about what was wrong with the past and who and what can and can't be commemorated.

You've conveniently, but not cleverly, narrowed your scope to exclude the worst of the bad bunch: German, Austrian and Italian leaders.

And don't forget the notorious UK leaders, Anthony Eden and Neville Chamberlain.
Then there's the US notorious leaders. We could go all round the world, mentioning notorious leaders, but you choose to concentrate o the ones that fill your bigoted narrative.

How far back do people want to go, to the begining of time? Do people want to wipe out the history of mankind in every country thoughout the world, every painting or piece of art destroyed and finally who decides based on what critieria?
My cut off is the Roman Conquest. Not the first one - the second one in AD 54. I try not to have nightmares about anything before then.

What some people want is the exact opposite of that. What they want, and what enrages the RWRs, is for history to be properly told, e.g. for what Rhodes was really like, for what Colston was really like, for what Churchill was really like, for it to not be wiped out.

If we want history around slavery told in its full then we should be learning about the Barbary Slave Trade
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barbary_slave_trade
Most people have never even heard about this....
Est. 1.25 million Europeans captured by Africans from our shores (inc UK shores) and enslaved in Africa. What happened to all these Europeans? there does not seem to be any evidence of white communities from the descendants of these slaves, presumably the Africans worked them till they died? Were they treated well, have Africa apologised?

Think it is time we moved on myself, bad things happened hundreds of years ago, the world was very different then. If we want to talk about slavery we should be focusing on what is happening now, plenty evidence that it may be taking place in China- but we don't talk about that because we need China to supply much of what fuels our luxury lifestyles, and heck it would probably be deemed as racism to criticise the Chinese, esp considering what we did 300 years ago (and conveniently ignoring the fact the Great Britain led the world in abolishing slavery)

Some thing in the region if 50000 ? Were taken from Cornwall / Devon and forced into slavery

prog on the radio about the caper a while back

I'm sure they have , you and others keep reminding us:

50000 people were taken from Cornwall by the Arabs / moors and put Into slavery
... (Barbary slavers continued to operate on a small scale even into the 20th century). ..

The Barbary Slave trade was fuelled by pirates raiding ships and coastal villages. They were not targeted on any particular ethnicity. The practice was not justified on any white superiority basis. It amounted to an estimated 1,000,000 slaves of all ethnicities, including black Africans. The western enslavement of Africans enslaved 13,000,000. It was justified, excused and defended by a white superiority attitude.
The Barbary pirates who were responsible for the capture and supply of slaves were defeated by the western nations of the time, English, American, French and Dutch. They were defeated, by white people, due to their capture and enslaving of white people, who then went on to capture and enslave black Africans.

So while the Barbary Pirates would be accurately described as cruel criminals, the enslavement of black Africans was cruel, criminal and fundamentally racist.

A non issue that won't affect anyone but is stoked up to keep people at each others throats.

Whilst Bojo gets his gourmet take outs paid by the wife of a Tory donor. At the cost of £27,000. Registered as a benefit?

But £20 for poor families is not enough.

Fake culture war so people are distracted.
