Lenovo not resetting

I posted on the software side about my inability to find password.

I bit the bullet and decided on a full Reset, even though I don’t have back up files .

Anyway, it appears to start but then this pops up. I do as it says, but it it returns.:

The LT is less than a year old and was a distress purchase from Curry’s during lockdown - so probably bought something without due diligence.

A couple of months ago, the network adapter appeared to fail, which I remedied with a USB one, which solved the issue.

Is it worth the hassle of returning it to Curry’s?. Will they say it is software and not covered. (Ignoring the NA issue). Has any of you had dealings with them?

There is no disk drive. What is a Thumb Drive, is it a USB? It did not come with any boot media, and I did not create one.

Can you boot in safe mode (usually F8 key) and try another restart?

IIRC, on my Lenovo laptop (Z50-70) you need to hold down the Function key and repeatedly tap the F12 key while booting to avoid the normal Windows boot-up.

I tried that repeatedly, but it would not work.

Holding the on/off for 30 seconds allows mr to get to restart, but I end up where I am now.

But earlier, I just got a black screen for half hour, but no whirring noises. I did reseed the on button and it gave me a message that suggested that I had stopped it loading Windows. I have repeatedly tried following the instruction and am now back to a black screen, for about 3 hours.. in the absence of any other ideas I was going to leave it as it is over night. But if it IS working, should there not be some noise?

Yeah should be noise, eg the fan, or the hard disc drive. If you’re continually getting a black screen it could be a few things such as, a glitch in windows, a faulty battery. You could try this I found on a website:

Fix 4. Hard reset your Lenovo laptop
Just like non-peripheral devices, peripheral devices can also result in your Lenovo ThinkPad black screen issue. Have you noticed some dots spinning in the boot-up process? If yes, then you should do a hard reset on your laptop to check it. The following steps will guide you to do so.

Step 1: Make sure you shut down your Lenovo laptop first.

Step 2: Unplug the power cords from your laptop. Gently, remove the battery and disconnect all the peripheral devices from the system.

Step 3: Let your laptop idle for 30-40 seconds.

Step 4: Now, long-press on the power button for around 60 seconds.

Step 5: Place the battery back in the laptop and turn it on.

If your Lenovo laptop boots-up properly, then it was one of the peripheral devices that were causing your Lenovo laptop's black screen. Now, connect all your peripheral devices one by one, until you reproduce the black screen again. This way, you will know which device was causing the issue. If the issue persists, then the problem could be something else.

What do you mean by peripheral devices? Stuff you plug into USB ports?

Also, temoving the battery involved taking the case off, I will have to have a go tomorrow

Thanks. The problem is that I don’t have a working device to download through!

I tried the F12 trick that I think you suggested, and it worked. But it only brought up 2 options, which sent me back to the loop in which I had already found myself.

Fir £15 it seems worth a punt and will be quicker than sending it to a repairman

Went to order it and it offered me a Product Key for £25. I had not thought of that, and I cannot find it written down. Presumably I will need to pay for a new one?

Your windows product key is often on the disc packet.
