colour change on display and print

I recently made the mistake of transferring to an energy company called Avro

they have decided to use pale green for some of the text on their emails and documents, which I find very difficult to read, and which does not print on my laser.

When I've encountered poor design that is difficult to read before, I've asked the company, and they've always offered a "large font" and/or black and white option, apparently as part of their Accessibiliy policy for the visually impaired. I asked Avro about that, and they brusquely suggested I might like to *** off and take my business elsewhere (I have summarised the wording of their reply).

is there a way I can change colour to B&W? The document is in PDF, I have the Adobe reader but see no option to change colour to view or print.

Nor in Windows Live mail for the email.

Printing in black and white is likely to render pale colours in white (i.e. not printed)

yes, that seems to be what it does. It is a monochrome laser printer

I have tried it in greyscale, which also makes it invisible (and also makes the light grey text they have chosen to use for some parts, too faint to read)

In Adobe Reader, go to Edit > Preferences > Accessibility > Replace Document Colours > Use High-Contrast Colours

I set it to
high contast
black text on white

it has changed the text on page 1 to black on white

but on page 2 onwards, all text is green

can't see why.

I tried again with "edit select all" but it is still green

Is it text text, or is it text that's been saved as an image? Can you copy and paste the text in another application, say Word?

yes, it is text, not image (apart from the logo). I can copy and paste it, as a one off, but as Avro are unwilling or incapable of providing documents that I can read, I have now taken their advice.

Fair enough.

I just told my laptop to print this website. I am in the pub and not connected to a printer. I told it to print to Adobe PDF. I then selected "print in greyscale" In the preview it removes all of the colours and saves the file as a new PDF.

Have you tried doing that? You will be creating a new greyscale PDf which you can then hopefully send to your printer.

Admittedly, I am using Acrobat Pro XI.

Bypassing Adobe- I just asked my lappy to use "microsoft print to PDF" as the printer. It too has the option to use grey scale. I opened a PDF with colours in it and selected "black and white", again the preview and save files are black and white.

I'm with AVRO too. By coincidence, I was just now listening to You and yours on Radio 4, and Avro used to have one of the best reputations, but now they're gone poor for customer response etc. They blame it on Covid, naturally

I just did the following which seems to work, at least for PDFs.

Open a document. Highlight some text (not area selected for snapshot). Copy, then paste it into a Word document. You then have all the font options available, including automatic or black font. Tried it with the complete statement and the layout isn't exactly the same, but you can play around with that in Word if it's important. At least you can read it!

Example from part of a statement below. I wanted to attach the Word doc but when I hit Upload a File it only comes up with PDF docs. I'm pretty sure I've uploaded other types of file previously, anybody comment?

I would be very surprised if that wasnt contrary to disability discrimination legislation.

Write to them to say that you absolutely will pay their bills, but only when they send you ones which you can read.

The document is in PDF, I have the Adobe reader but see no option to change colour to view or print.

I was going to suggest the same as fixit, if the document security allows copying.

It is not the sort of company I would wish to be associated with.
