EU make offer to reduce 80% of post Brexit checks at NI border

I genuinely think he's just a lackey for the ERG.
I think he'd throw his hand in with anyone that he thinks would further his career.

Whether he eventually jumps ship and admits it was all a gigantic mistake, or whether he's forced out, or whether he continues to bluff his way through, I'm not sure.

The ERG have a controlling power in Tory govt, so he has to pander to them

they arent a majority, but enough to stop him getting votes through.

Johnson promised them "vote for the WA and you will get no deal in a years time

Independent states have boarders or choose to have none. As SI is in the EU going that way would achieve nothing unless NI joined the EU.
Which wouldnt be long coming.

What that would do is apply the EU problem to all UK exports and stick some sort of tariff on the other way round ;) unless the UK did a trade deal with them to avoid that. Then the EU would feel that the level market was under threat unless the UK agree to tariff free on all EU exports here.
So it wouldnt be all bad,then... :ROFLMAO:

haggis ;) chilled I think and a very significant part of the Scot's exports LOL.
They could make their own in the RoI

The EU can't be trusted as they've proven over and over. Time to pull the plug, ditch the NI protocol, invoke article 16.
The Republic will be sweating as they know the potential consequences for them will be exclusion from the single market, they know the EU are capable of such treachery.

Microsoft Word - Northern Ireland Protocol - Command Paper.docx (publishing.service.gov.uk)

6. In The UK’s approach to the Northern Ireland Protocol, the UK Government set out the essential commitments that needed to be respected in all scenarios: a. Northern Ireland businesses must have unfettered access to the rest of the UK market. b. Trade from Great Britain to Northern Ireland which remained in the UK customs territory should not be subject to tariffs; and Northern Ireland must benefit from the Free Trade Agreements we strike with third countries - protecting Northern Ireland’s place in the UK customs territory. c. The additional processes on goods arriving in Northern Ireland must take account of all flexibilities and discretion - ensuring a smooth flow of trade with no need for new physical customs infrastructure

This Protocol is in danger of causing the crisis it was created to prevent.

Article 6 Protection of the UK internal market 1. Nothing in this Protocol shall prevent the United Kingdom from ensuring unfettered market access for goods moving from Northern Ireland to other parts of the United Kingdom's internal market. Having regard to Northern Ireland's integral place in the United Kingdom's internal market, the Union and the United Kingdom shall use their best endeavours to facilitate the trade between Northern Ireland and other parts of the United Kingdom, in accordance with applicable legislation and taking into account their respective regulatory regimes as well as the implementation thereof. The Joint Committee shall keep the application of this paragraph under constant review and shall adopt appropriate recommendations with a view to avoiding controls at the ports and airports of Northern Ireland to the extent possible. 3. What a cop out. The actual agreement it refers to included the infamous border in the sea complete with customs checks. Remember the fantastic IT that was going to appear. Even if that is available there is still a problem with mixed goods exports as every one of them needs a separate piece of paper.

Another part of the same paper

Broader issues
64.The agreement in principle reached by the Co-Chairs delivers significant measures to support Great Britain to Northern Ireland trade. However, we recognise that they do not deal comprehensively with each and every instance of a new procedure that the Protocol may create. A number of smaller, sectoral issues in practice spanned both the discussions on the UK’s potential Free Trade Agreement with the EU, and those on implementing the Protocol. We are clear that continued and intense work will be required across all such issues, respecting the Belfast (Good Friday) Agreemen

All bullshot for cretins that doesn't settle anything at all. Just like the rest of the mire it's created.

This Protocol is in danger of causing the crisis it was created to prevent.

Yes and no, my moneys on a hard border between ROI and Europe, which was a fallback anyway in the event of a hard brexit.

I have thought right from the word go even before it was discussed at all that the ERG see that sort of thing a solution maybe even a united Ireland.
