SWMBO wants the shower room fan to come on by means of a pull switch, but to go off again after a set time (maybe 15 mins) if you forget to do it manually after showering. Then, the next person comes along and wishes to switch on the fan does so as normal (in other words the switch has reverted to off automatically).

If my description males any sense,, is it possible?!

Yes - just a normal timer fan set to required time (there will be a maximum time) and a 'momentary/retractive' switch.

I've never heard of a momentary/retractive switch - off to search for one....thanks

so how would one be wired up to a fan, please?

Thanks guys. so the fact that the fan will run on for some time is down to the fact that it has an internal run-on time built in (I presume they can be adjusted?)

I think I get it now. Thank you all for your help

Would another (better?) Way to do it be to have a fan with a humidisat built into it, and have the green switched on all the time? That way as soon as someone stats a shower the fan will kick in and once the room is cleared enough it will just stop

I don't find humidstat fans much good.

If you walk into the bathroom to have a shower or use the WC, why wouldn't you want the fan to start at once?

I always start my humidistat fan with the lightswitch for showers etc.
One of the benefit of the humidistat is when the humidity is generated elsewhere in the house, the fan then comes on and adds that bit of extra background ventilation.
I also use a delay on timer. When using the WC in the middle of the night, it is best not to wake up the neighbours!

Quite. If condensation on cold/coldish surfaces is the problem being addressed, then by the time the humidity has risen high enough to trigger a humidistat, it will be too late to stop at least some of the condensation occurring.

Kind Regards, John

Do you need help in finding a modern good quality extractor with a ball-bearing motor and rubber mounts?
