The forum's Local tab doesn't seem to have any electricians - in London!

There's nothing to ignore - or do you mean that we should ignore your instruction to ignore? :) :)

Kind Regards, John

My default state in life is to be ignored so I didn't consider that anyone would question my post.

Thanks EFL. That's reassuring.
I have already got his estimate for a new CU and he will do a separate one for any remedial work needed.
The electrician who fitted my shower (on a submain) recommended a main cutout upgrade but when the surveyor came from the DNO to start the process he said that a shower up to 9KW would be permissible with my original setup. (He did find a problem with the earth readings so I had that sorted).
Does an EICR involve disconnecting my power? Mrs Vicario has a couple of Zoom meetings on the day.

Yes, it should do.

However, If you are having a new consumer unit, why do you want an EICR?

Everything should be tested when the CU is replaced and you will be issued an Electrical Installation Certificate followed by a Compliance Certificate from the electrician's registration body which are both part of the job and no extra charge - although, obviously it will be included in the cost.

Some electricians are adamant that testing (an EICR?) should be done before CU replacement but I could never see how that did not involve an extra day and an extra couple of hundred pounds.

My EICR is £220. I did ask him to do one as it's good to know all is well. We did have a kitchen refurb some years ago and the electrics were involved of course.
Shall I ask him to fit an isolator when he does the CU?

Ok. The extra £220 was my point. You will get an EIC and CC after the new CU.

Won't he need one before he does it?
