Should asylum seekers be allowed to work while their claim is processed

I think it’s worth consideration.

The devil makes work for idle hands and we have a massive shortage in hospitality, care sector, construction etc.

Some of them are highly educated and trained professionals

How about them doing community service in return for bed and board while their claim is processed? I'd happily do that if I was genuinely seeking asylum.

They should insist on them doing some sort of closely supervised work of some sort, to earn their keep. My partner tells me a well qualified Iranian doctor, plus his family are being kept in our local Holiday Hotel, doing absolutely nothing, not being taught English, just kept at public expense and for what purpose? There kids attend the school she works at, they are learning at least some English and passing it on to the parents.

Language is quickest learned in an environ where it has to be used - a work environment.

Yet if they cannot speak the language here then while working as a doctor they will not be able to understand a patients symptoms and can then make a misdiagnosis.

I hate to say it but I find it almost impossible to understand some of the doctors we have now

If they are murderous thieves, then hopefully the justice system will be taking its normal precautions.
Irrespective of their ethnicity or nationality.
