heard of immunity....apparently govt advice is based on herd immunity

is anybody going to a Covid party this weekend -Ive heard they are on trend

"The strategy of the British government in minimising the impact of Covid-19 is to allow the virus to pass through the entire population so that we acquire herd immunity, but at a much delayed speed so that those who suffer the most acute symptoms are able to receive the medical support they need, and such that the health service is not overwhelmed and crushed by the sheer number of cases it has to treat at any one time."

"Top supermarket executives held a call with George Eustice, the secretary of state for environment, food and rural affairs on Friday afternoon. The teleconference came after the health secretary, Matt Hancock, claimed he had been in touch with supermarkets and he was “confident” food supplies would not run out.

However, several supermarket executives told the Guardian that until Friday there had been no communication from the government about managing potential shortages during the outbreak."

Effectively then, investment.

"... such that the health service is not overwhelmed and crushed by the sheer number of cases it has to treat at any one time."

although since we already have a health system that is understaffed, under-equipped, and under-resourced, which is already loaded beyond its peak, adding in hundreds of thousands of extra patients is going to overwhelm it.

how unfortunate that our government's anti-foreigner policy has already thinned out the ranks of overseas doctors, nurses and care assistants. They'll all be busy in their own countries now.

Why is it a lie?, my understanding is he met with supermarket bosses today and hopes in the next few days to relax rules so they can deliver during the night, and possibly extend lorry drivers hours.

After the first time he said that, supermarket representatives said they had not had any discussions with him.
It was a lie.

please explain how you formed this understanding. It would be useful to see your sources.
Are your sources better than these?
Coronavirus: Supermarkets cast doubt on minister's food supply claim
6 March 2020

On Thursday, Matt Hancock said: "We are working with the supermarkets to make sure that, if people are self-isolating, then we will be able to get the food and supplies that they need."
But supermarket sources said they had not discussed getting food to homes.
One executive said he was "baffled" by the suggestions.
An executive told BBC business editor Simon Jack: "Matt Hancock has totally made up what he said about working with supermarkets. We haven't heard anything from government directly."
He added that sales of cupboard basics such as pasta and tinned goods have "gone through the roof".

The only news story I'd read at that time was about night deliveries and extending drivers hours hence why I asked where the lie was.
I now see he made certain claims on Question Time which is being rebutted by un-named individuals.
'An executive', 'supermarket representatives' 'one executive'.

You know how the press works, 'supermarket representatives' could be the ginger lad collecting trolleys in the Asda car park.

One BBC news article says:

The British Retail Consortium, which represents supermarkets, said there had been only limited disruption to supply chains so far and availability of products on shelves remained good.
For self-isolating customers, it said most retailers would be more than happy for online deliveries to delivered to doorsteps.

Which contradicts other items in the story and is at odds what the ginger lad in the Asda car park claims.
