Hi and I hope someone can help please. I am looking to get a new paving slab driveway installed just like the picture but been advised that I cannot have recessed drain covers like the ones you see with mono-blocks.

I have enclosed a picture of my driveway could anyone advise what I do or supply pictures to let me see.

Thanks in advance.

Scott.

You can set slabs into recessed covers no problem. If someone says not, then they may not be good enough to let loose on your drive

That is what I thought guys, a guy with a good reputation as well as he says it is going over where the gravel is but did not explain.

Looks like a boundary, is it because your only paving up to the gravel, so the cover would be half gravel and half slabs?

If that’s the case weld a plate into the recessed cover to ensure the pavers stay in position and don’t move within the cover. Then fill the other side with gravel.
Obviously ensure the plate and welds are protected with Galvafroid or similar.

Thank you so much guys, I reckon he just did not wat the hassle to be fair. I like the idea that Ronny suggested with welding a plate into recessed tray and putting on Galvafroid. Certainly if the installer could not do it my friend is a blacksmith so easily done. If anyone ever comes across pictures of what a finished driveway would look like with this method I would appreciate it greatly.

I spoke to another installer this morning and he came up with a similar solution and he also advised that what I could also do is block pave just up to past the drain and have them recessed as normal. Then once all groundwork is done install Nidagravel Stabilisation sheets and cover with gravel with a cobble border.

Obviously all groundwork would be done properly first. He also advised that my driveway is on a 8% incline and advised that in the recessed plates to drill in the base three rows of three small holes for drainage, place in membrane and then slabs, gravel or block and to have two small holes drilled at the base of plate where it meets the wall. I asked him why and he said that is why you see so many mono blocked driveways dried out but the blocks within recessed plate are soaking wet especially in unshaded areas and even in areas that get the sun.

Would be interested to hear your comments.

Scott.
