They say it is going up by 54% - is that both gas and electricity ?

I so, WHY. Only 40% of our electric comes from gas.

Its all getting pretty expensive, my bills will be going up from 2 to 3k a year (£60 quid a week for heat and light) shocking

Yeah. Going to have to get used to being a bit colder. Funny how they bring in the price rises in Spring when the weather gets a bit warmer.

Saw a Tweet earlier ... what was it ...

Rishi Sunak tells MPs it is impossible to “artificially” hold down energy prices. In other news, Shell today announced their profits have increased by fourteen-fold and they plan to hand $8.5 billion back to shareholders.
Rich getting richer, poor getting poorer. Brexit is working, guys!

"We will build it back better, you will own nothing & you will be happy"

Because Gas has gone up by 4x.

I'm getting Solar panels and a big battery. It won't help my heating bill but it'll take some of the pain away.

Whatever - electric should be going p a lot less than gas.

We're busy ordering solar too, 15 panels + 5kw battery. (just over 10k fitted) hope its worth it.

I don't know the details, but because of the price cap I don't think it can.

Who are you using?

I asked Bulb this. They claim that there electric is from renewable sources, so why does the price of gas affect their electricity costs?
Fobbed me off.

You're only half way towards the truth of the matter.

Controversial, but I think electricity and gas have been too cheap historically - hitting people in the pockets is probably the best way to encourage energy saving and energy efficiency activities.

They don't actually give us the caps on the actual rates which is what you actually need to know! Don't know why they do this, so annoying

"The £1,971 per year level of the cap is based on a household with typical consumption on a dual electricity and gas bill paying by direct debit."

"The values shown in the text above include VAT and are expressed for the current Typical Domestic Consumption Values (TDCV) of 2,900kWh of electricity, 12,000kWh of gas, and 4,200kWh of electricity for Economy 7."

good point, I am/was with bulb and yeas 100% renewables. (I always knew the 100% renewables was a load of rubbish)

so are we still with bulb ? I thought they went pop! but I still get emails from them asking for readings.

Yeah, still with Bulb - special administration.

Something else I asked them - they have 1.7 million customers, and ask for 1 month payment in advance. Average bill £100.
So they should have a £170,000,000 float in the bank each month. What do they do with this money? My guess is invest on the cash markets. Probably lost a load in a bad deal.

So we all get £200 a year than ?

well I won’t have to pay any gas bill than

my gas is unlikely to exceed £200 in a year

I'm getting Solar panels
My brother got some about 10 years ago. The FIT tariff was about 49p per kw-fixed for 25 years. He moved a couple of years later, but had been making £1k+ a year. New owners still on the same tariff and was a deciding factor in buying the house. Newer panels are more efficient and cheaper, but FIT is non existent now. I thought of getting some and changing the heating and hot water over to electric.

It's just a loan though:

"The Energy Bills Rebate will provide around 28 million households with an upfront discount on their bills worth £200. Energy suppliers will apply the discount to domestic electricity customers from October, with the Government meeting the costs. The discount will then be automatically recovered from people’s bills in equal £40 instalments over the next five years. This will begin from 2023, when global wholesale gas prices are expected to come down."

Not sure how that works though if you move?
