Maybe they would have stayed if they had access to cruise missiles, their own airforce and ultimately nuclear weapons, if things started to go pear-shaped.

The difference is Ukraine’s citizens are not being bombed, killed or jailed by Ukraine’s leaders only by an invading force.

Syria is a horrible mess with Assad bombing his own people and the opposing force was mostly ISIS - the West had no clear way to support any side.
