Using bricks to raise roof height?

Hi we are wanting to convert the loft but it's way off being high enough (about 170/180cm) and after lots of googling the only option seems to be raising the pitch of the roof. I was wondering if it's possible to "just" add more bricks to the entire house then put the existing roof on top instead so the roof pitch doesnt change? All the houses on the street look the same and it would be a shame to change it.

Technically yes, practically no.

You mean basically add another storey to the house. If by some miracle you would be granted Planning Permission (unlikely) then you would need to build a totally new roof along with strong enough floor joists or suitable attic trusses along with an engineered stair well and a set of stairs that would likely need to enter the new space at the highest point. Don't forget to factor in escape/fire regulations also.

At least you'll keep an architect and structural engineer busy for a day or two.
