Worcester Bosch Greenstar 8000 Life problems....Or are they???

Yes the boiler flame is on when the CH is on and stays on when it reaches 70, however the flame stops after someone has used the hot water. The flame then starts again after 1min 45seoncds.

Ive put that radiator on 15 mins ago and the boiler temp is 59.5. I then opened the hot water and the temp dropped to 51. Does that sound normal?
Should it drop that much.
Thanks for replying so promptly.

Yeah it's definitely frustrating as the reason I chose this boiler was because at 35kw I thought it would be powerful and heat up the house quickly. It seems to be worse than the old vokera boiler which would switch instantly between both also.

The thing is If this was a built In future then why aren't many more people complaining about this?
As with a family on a cold day makes the CH virtually unworkable as you said there's always someone opening a hot water tap for one reason or another and the house never heats up to a reasonable level

Like I said I thought many many more people would be complaining if this was a built in feature...

Guys, I'm in exactly the same situation. I've also been advised this is normal, but I feel this is a pointless feature which means we have to run our CH for much longer to warm up. Something is not right and I feel Worcester don't want to admit that this is an issue for many.

Try changing pre heat to 0

Can you please give us guidance how to change this?

Thanks.

Pre heat settings are in the image I have uploaded..if you are able to view. I haven't changed it yet to test myself but will be doing so

Thanks very much for your help. I've changed pre-heat which was on 1 to 0, and will see how it goes. But to be honest, I doubt it if this is the reason for the issues we're all facing, because the real reason is that there is a long delay in the boiler switching from DHW to CH.

For me if I put on CH for say 3hrs during the evening, all it takes is for someone to open the tap water (to wash dishes, their face etc) a couple of times and at least 15-20 mins of that 3 hours is wasted in waiting time for the DHW to switch to CH. If this is a feature, then it's absolutely useless and rubbish.

All combi boiler works in the same way. They all give priority to hot water

Yes we know they give priority to hot water , that's never been in question. However we've all had combi boilers before and the delay in switching from DHW to CH has never been this long as it is on this greenstar 8000

@martyndc88 - I agree with what you're saying and I'm fully aware how combi boilers work, but I have to agree with @Khan82 reply - This boiler is ridiculously slow to switch back from DHW to CH and this excuse that the so-called feature is there to maybe protect the boiler parts or is there to save money is just downright stupid and other boilers don't do such a slow switch. In fact this boiler seems to cost more in gas bills, yet gives less in heating output.

I've tinkered with various different settings including pre heat but nothing has reduced the delay of 1min 45 seconds.

If I only knew this was the case beforehand, I wouldn't have purchased it. They were giving all rave reviews online but never happened to mention this issue.

Same here. Absolute rubbish.

I’m have the same problem with my Worcester Bosch 8000 life. Im a gas engineer and have been for 19 years. My old Greenstar never had this problem. If someone has a bath or shower the heating goes cold and take ages to warm up. There’s no problem with the diverter or anything else. The Boiler doesn’t go into high rate for a good 20 mins and if a hot tap is run in between the cycles start again. The problem in my opinion is that the boiler takes too long to go into a high fire. It just seems to stay modulated low. Saying that When everyone finishes in the kitchen and bathroom and there’s no demand for hot water it warms up fine. I’ve noticed a big difference between this 8000 life and my old greenstar. I’m thinking of added an unvented cylinder it’s that bad. I’ve sometimes put it chimney sweep mode to warm the house.

You're spot on, but unfortunately neither will Worcester agree, nor will any of the forum members - This is not normal.

change setting 3-b2 from 5 (default ) to 3 this the time between a thermostat asking for heat and then asking again
3-c6 from 1(default) to 0 this is the delay time after using hot water or preheat activating
3-d1 3 (default) change to 5 or 6 to increase pump speed around system if poor heating to any rads

Thanks snb. I'm already on these settings, but it has made very little difference and all it takes is for someone to open a tap and then we're waiting for ages for the boiler to go back to the higher temperatures, it's just ridiculous.

if you have changed these settings then the delay from drawing hot water to heating starting again would be about 75 seconds.
As a comparison for other combination boiler manufacturers this is about the same time delay. You cannot compare to older model boilers as there was a change in 2019 to achieve a minimum efficiency rating and nearly all manufacturers had to adopt this delay to be able to achieve it.
I have a lot of these boilers installed and don't get any issues that you describe unless there is a problem such as a dripping hot tap or repetitive demand for hot water. the latter is a problem for a few in the mornings but setting the heating on 30 mins earlier so the house is warmer gets around this.

I could appreciate it if this issue was only with myself, but there's now a considerable number of people on this forum that are complaining about this, so it's clearly become a problem for us. To put the heating on earlier kind of beats the point of energy efficiency because we then end up running it for longer, thus costing even more.

without looking at the system installation it is often difficult to determine all of the probable causes. I have well over 50 of the 8000 boilers installed with 2 that have complained about similar issues to yourself. one is because they have a large household all getting ready for school and work and they are continually demanding hot water for about 90 minutes on and off. ( they should have had a hot water cylinder but they knew best!) the other had a dripping hot water tap and they had preheat enabled.
I have solved a few others that i hadn't installed and there systems hadn't been balanced properly or they had more than one heating zone and the thermostat settings were incorrectly set in the back ground.
