Paint or replace old bathroom radiator?

Would need to change the valves too. Haven't seen any old brass union extension tails for those old wheel valves, seen the newer ones that use seals but they don't seem to fit those old valves too well and I've tried a few.

I'd whip it off, wire brush it, scotch pad it and paint it and see how it goes.
why would he need to change the valve just take the tails out and put them into extensions New rad from wickes is 30 quid and they are stelrad clones why fek about for 36 quid including extensions .

What is that?
Take a sample of system water 25mm deep in a jam jar, add 4-5 bright wire nails, put a lid on and leave for a couple of weeks. If the inhibitor is up to scratch the water stays clear and the nails stay bright. You could do the same with tap water as a control, though I never bother.

Ah, ok, was thinking about the compression tail extensions, not the tapping extension .. fair enough
th

The other reason though was why throw out a rad, if it can easily be re-painted ... personally I think too much gets thrown away these days when it can easily be repaired.

Have still not decided, but if I go down the replacement route, would I need two 2cm extensions, one 4cm extension or a 4cm+ adjustable one that I cut to size? 25 inches is not 64cm, so I guess 4cm of extension won't be exactly right - is there a specific extension piece available somewhere for the 25 inch to 60cm conversion which I think is my situation?
Also, the extension pieces say "TRV extension piece" - does this mean I will need to change the radiator valves too?

unless you want to drain down and change the valves use the extension pieces i have put a link to and use a 20mm one on either side (looks better) the other type of tails you cut will not do the valves you have and need new valves
