Yep, he's finally getting the point of Brexit. We must grow our own. He argues that Immigration is NOT the solution. Not looking for overnight solutions. Playing the long game or 'Brexit' as it’s known. ;)

Now, if he just applied the same logic to all our trades, he'd get my vote.

I agree with his comments, that we have left and need to get on with it. But it doesn't mean it was good for us.
From your link...

The Labour leader reiterated his stance on Brexit despite warnings about its impact on the economy.
The Office for Budget Responsibility has reported a 15% reduction in trade intensity due to Brexit and forecasts leaving the EU will reduce GDP by 4% over 15 years.
"We took a decision on leaving the EU in 2016 and we have now left," Sir Keir told the Sunday Show. "There is no case for returning to the EU.
"Now what we need to do is rather than just sticking with the deal we've got, which is not good enough, we need to make Brexit work. We need a better deal."
Sir Keir said a Labour government would aim to fix issues over the Northern Ireland Protocol, remove barriers to trade and establish closer EU co-operation on security issues

Please could you explain how membership of the EU prevented UK from training more people to become healthcare professionals.

The Commodification of higher education has meant the training of our nurses, doctors, radiographers etc has become profit driven.

Its not a surprise that removing Nursing bursaries combined with making it a money making degree course…..has led to a shortage of nurses.

Right wing free markets = aren’t they wonderful

Did he say how he was going to do it?
A Swiss style agri food deal would remove 80% of checks.

but head banging brexers in the ERG won’t support it….because they start whining about sovereignty, self determination and all that bolox.

But hey, once there are some adults in power, we can start reversing Brexit damage.

I believe it all started under Labour and Tony Blair with his education, education, education mantra and the banning of new grammar schools. In reality, it meant cram as many kids as you can into universities and funding was geared to that. Let’s get all those computer programmers, graphic designers, dance and music degrees. Never mind who will be emptying our bins, serving our food, sweeping our streets, fixing our cars, building our homes etc - we can buy all that in, cheaply, from abroad. Just keep telling the kids that they can be whatever they want to be in this new labour society. All of a sudden, nobody wants to empty bins, sweep streets, serve food or get their hands dirty in a manual job as it’s too far beneath what they have been told to expect. How about starting there?

What’s that got to do with the thread title? You’re taking it off topic. The thread is about the Labour leaders idea of the UK going back to the old ways of training our own NHS professionals instead of relying on cheap imported labour.

In the same way as it prevented (or more accurately, de-incentivised) UK companies and the NHS to train UK workers. It allowed anyone from the EU who were on lower wages to just come over here and gradually the system became too dependent on them at the expense of U.K. workers.

Can you help by saying what year you think the NHS didn't rely on foreign staff?

Long before you were born, obviously.

It shows that he is not relying on a 3 word phrase to get support but is looking at a whole picture, which is what I thought you wanted to see.

I much prefer it to just a headline.

What he means is, we have to make the most of the poor hand we dealt oursekf

going back to the old ways

Before 1950, of course

In fact, from before the NHS started

It's almost as if mottie is one of those bitter old men who are attracted to Brexit because they don't like foreigners.

Even those who come here and save lives, and do jobs Brits don't want to do.

Life in the East End must have been hell for him.

Which side did he support in Cable Street?
