Even Keir doesn’t want 'open borders' to help the NHS.

What’s that got to do with the thread title? You’re taking it off topic. The thread is about the Labour leaders idea of the UK going back to the old ways of training our own NHS professionals instead of relying on cheap imported labour.

Ah, I've got it now. He means back in the imaginary days that exist only in Brexers heads, when unicorns grazed on the village green and red-coated soldiers invaded and looted most of the world.

Ooops, sorry, that bit was true.

Before 1950, of course

In fact, from before the NHS started

It's almost as if mottie is one of those bitter old men who are attracted to Brexit because they don't like foreigners.

Even those who come here and save lives, and do jobs Brits don't want to do.

Life in the East End must have been hell for him.

Which side did he support in Cable Street?
Double yawn.

Please could you explain how membership of the EU prevented UK from training more people to become healthcare professionals.
Being a member would make it hard to prioritise training British citizens, as you are not allowed to have grants available for your own citizens that aren't available to other EU citizens.

I believe it all started under Labour and Tony Blair with his education, education, education mantra

All make exactly the same noises. Why - part of the plot in or out of the EU. High skilled workforce a bit on the cheap side as well.

Really? I sometimes wonder where you get your info from.

Why do Brexers like mottie keep starting threads about Brexit?

Can't they just be happy that they "won?"

Heard that people are leaving Albania.
The bright educated ones , including doctors and nurses, are going to Germany.

You are aware that EU law requires all EU citizens to be treated the same.
In the sense that any 12-year old who goes to a school in, say, England, is allowed to study biology for example. And a teen can go on to "A" levels with a career in mind. Do you imagine that foreign EU youngsters used to come here with the intention of benefitting from our excellent state schools?

When I was a teen I volunteered at a local hospital one afternoon a week from school, as an alternative to an activity I wasn't keen on. A bunch of us did. It recruited quite a lot of local and foreign people.

So did I - visited a local mental home. Got me out of Div, iirc.
Good conditioning for this place.

Get to grips with why uni ceased to be free. There would only be one other way of paying for it that would keep it free. Add more people going - a general aim that has been around for some time. Loans - remove the need for the bank of mom and dad. More money going in means better facilities and etc. Expanding the number of places in halls. All sorts of aspects. Foreign students welcome - more money going in, self supported.

One EU aspect. I know a nurse that did her work experience in Sweden. Still possible? She also had the bursary that was offered but then found that she was paid less when she was actually in the job compared with those that did pay. More work to make that up. Hidden catch.

In Bangor the Welsh get the older halls and only Welsh is spoken there. ;) Just for interest.
