You prepare food on them
Really? I prepare all my food on chopping boards. Nothing really touches the worktops, because it's either the worktop or the knife that's getting ruined, depending on the worktop material

But does the wife like it?
I'm not being funny but who uses the kitchen more?
A solid walnut worktop from Worktop Express looks absolutely fantastic and it's half the price. Why wouldn't you?

Oof, opening the equality can of worms there..
Not especially; couples can share the time spent in the kitchen, one can be more competent than the other. Most chefs around the world are male. I think it's a fair question.

I think that's what he's saying. Look after the work top well and it will do you well.

Birch plywood is very susceptible to damp, it very quickly gets damp stain.

If you have conventional inset stainless sink, that’s not too bad, but wooden worktops with a Belfast sink is just a recipe for disaster.

I used to make and fit loads of these when popular in the early 2000s, its Fashion over practicality.

the Timber worktop fashion mostly got replaced by fashion for granite, whereas now compact laminate is the in thing.

From a Functional point of view: laminate worktops are near the top, then granite then compact laminate: but all are virtually as good as each other. Granite is very hard and anything ceramic falling on it will smash, it also tends to be very shiny so needs constant wiping to avoid water marks. Compact laminate can scratch, but is pretty hard wearing.

It's a bit groovy isn't it... I just not got the guts as much as I want too.
There's Red and yellow and pink and green
Purple and orange and blue. They are Whacky maybe not good if I want to sell in the future

I designed a sink cabinet for our bathroom from marine ply. The top was varnished lotsly with yacht varnish. It still went black.

Ended up replacing it with Corian.

I've got oak worktops, they've been great (3 years)... coated in a few coats of Osmo worktop oil, which I will re-coat as and when.

I've also got an under mount sink, and it all gets wet when I wash up, as long as you wipe any standing water, all should be good.
Only area that has started to show a bit of wear is the edge of the worktop where your wrists are when you're washing up, easily sorted with a rag and Osmo before I got to bed.

Personally I wouldn't have laminate type tops. Quartz or steel would be my next choice.
