Replacing dimmer with Hue dimmer

I have this old dimmer switch that I want to replace with a Hue dimmer. Obviously the lights should be "on" so that I can control them with the Hue switch.

Can I just connect the two wires?

Otherwise, what's the best way to install the Hue switch? Should I just leave the existing dimmer and put the Hue switch on top of it with the provided stickers? I'm asking because it occurred to me that the wires will always be live, so will need to remember that and be extra cautious when replacing the lightbulbs in the future.

Personally I would replace the old dimmer with an on/off switch, as you say want to be able to switch off to change bulb or if it goes faulty.

I have some Lidi lights with same idea, came with a remote dimmer control, which links with zigbee, although today we use voice commands, think wife has lost use of fingers now.

That's a very good suggestion, didn't think about it at all tbh. Thanks.
