
Ok. if I pull out the pan, am I not disrupting the waste pipe? Basically the bit of water at bottom of the pan and the pipe it is connected too?Unscrew the pan fixings and any wall fixings through the cistern at the top. The whole lot should pull out to let you separate the cistern from the pan, from underneath, and replace the flush valve.

Manufacturers should be banned from producing these things, invariably, you will end up having to pull the pan forward to allow you access to the cistern.
You could get lucky, and be able to swap the flush valve from above, assuming that's the issue.
Ah great. But I don't know which brand it is. But maybe I can purchase the one I need. Remove mine and see if I can do what you're suggesting.If you already have a fluidmaster fill valve, you can just change the business part of it from inside the cistern and leave the part that is fastened through the base of the cistern in place.
