Switched live question replacing a garden light

I’m replacing an outside light with a new smart light. The new smart light has connections for live neutral and ground in its connection box but when taking down the existing lights I see there’s a switched live (at least that’s what I think it is). I don’t need the switch on off function anymore because the new smart security light needs to be on all the time so can I just combine the switched live and live wires coming from the house into the new connector block or should I keep them separate? Many thanks in advance.

Just connect the permanent live and put the unused SLive into an insulated terminal block.

Thank you, the new fitting doesn’t have space to accommodate an extra block, may I ask what would be the issues with combining the live and the s/live?

Where does the switched live go?

If it's to a switch, that shouldn't cause any problems although to prevent any confusion or even danger (someone may disconnect it from the switch expecting it to be dead) it would be better to isolate both ends, even better would be to connect both ends to earth terminals.

Ah, that could be a good solution just so that I understand correctly I should connect the end of the wire in the switch to where the Earth wire connected is and do the same within the new fitting so that effectively the wire is made redundant but no new connector blocks are required which solves the lack of space issue ?

So this is the switch, if I understand you correctly I should just detach the s/live cable marked with the blue X and attach it to the earth cluster circled-in blue. Thanks again for the really useful assistance.

Yes that is the best option at both ends in my opinion, I'd remove the brown sleeves and leave them behind the switch as a reminder

Yes ideally but that may create more confusion when a future replacement is made and the customer wishes to have an internal switch
