Hi there, thank you for reading this. Please can anyone recommend a tool to sand some stair stringers? The area is about an inch wide and butted up to a wall (so too small to comfortably use a mouse sander). I'm just a DIYer doing a one-off (I hope) job so don't want to spend a lot - just enough so that it's ideally not uncomfortable to do.

Why do you think a mouse sander (or triangular sanding pad on a multitool) would be uncomfortable?
That's what I've always used for such jobs.

Thank you, I have one but I was thinking maybe something thinner. It's definitely my back up option :-)

I've found some of these that I'm going to investigate tomorrow

Yeah, one of a nice american hotrod, a big fish, the girlfriend (not the wife) lol.

Oh or the stuff that needs sanding :)
And how far does it need sanding? is it going to be stained or painted?

Top and sides of the stringer. Sides are easy enough with a mouse but the tops I can imagine the mouse slipping off enough times to be irritating
