Hi all.

I'm looking for advice on fitting a ceiling rose onto the following wiring which has been left exposed...

It has those blocks terminating the ends, but just need confirmation as to the correct wiring into the following ceiling rose for example: -

Thanks in advance.

This is basically what it should look like but one of the blacks should have a red (or brown)marker sleeve or tape and the exposed copper between the green and the 2 cable sheathes should be a little as possible.

Do you have any test kit to identify which black is neutral and which is switched live?

I doesn't really matter which Black goes where unless the bulb is a screw in type which they aren't usually on a pendant.

Thanks to you both for your replies.

@pete01 because of what you've said that it doesn't matter determining which of the blacks is neutral or switched?

With this type of fitting it wont make a difference as you can fit the bulb any way but it's still nice to have the live identified if possible.

Personally I would use 2 pieces of green/yellow sleeving. One for each earth wire, then you can see and pull test both to ensure they are connected.

Yes I agree but I'll bet a pound to a penny the existing is twisted together and secondly I'll estimate OP doesn't have any and I'd say not worth the expenditure of effort to get some.

Unless he lives in the sticks it's easy enough to ask any sparky for a few inches of sleeving.

They are often found getting breakfast in supermarkets, Greggs, Screwfix etc etc etc.

And the final result of that additional exercise? an extra 2 inches
