End cap on live pipe

Hi,

I'm fitting my new kitchen and found 2 old radiator valves behind the kitchen cabinets. The radiator has been removed, but the pipe is still live.

One of the valves is in my way. I wondering if it's possible for me to take the valve off, and put an end cap on while the system is live?

It's a microbore 10mm system and the tank is in the loft. The end cap I got is a push fit.

Would I be okay to do this live, or am I going to have to drain the system?

Not sure with your system but I think to help yourself you need to shut off the tank, maybe even shut off both sides of the rest of the rads.
Dont forget that when you take off the valve it will leave an olive behind which will be in the way of the push fit. It may be a faff to remove the olive - meanwhile you may be getting wet - be prepared to put the valve beck on in a hurry. But as I say I am not an expert and do not know if shutting down the tank and rads will work - the idea is the same as putting your finger on the end of a straw full of liquid - stops it coming out.

Yes but you are getting wet and there will be surprisingly more water than you expect.

Is that 90 degree fitting push fit? If so slipping that off and the end stop on there will be easier but the above still applies.

Yes that would do away with any faff with the olive.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll have to drain the system then. I've just put new plasterboard up, and probably best not to get it wet.

I had a shock when I drained mine the first time.

I know plumbers might do a snatch on a live pipe, but I wouldn’t have that confidence

I'm not a plumber just daft enough.

If that elbow will turn then face the valve down and use it to drain into a bucket

My assumption is you for it to be left alone and buried/forgotten about. I wouldn’t be doing that with push fit.

Open vented f & e tank? You can bung the tank and cap the vent pipe
