Earth/moon.

Is this still the Electrics UK forum, or has it metamorphosed into Facebook or suchlike? :-)

I am more guilty than most of engaging in 'off-topic' discussions, but in all the years I've been here I don't recall having previously seen quick-fire backwards-and-forwards 'banter' quite like we've seen recently - I suppose one good thing about it is that it makes me think about my daughters :-)

Its an ex screwfix effect....

You should join up ;)
No way - If I wasn't clear enough, I have "kept well away from it" because I have "sometimes 'had a look' " ;)

:)

You obviously don't 'need my permission', and nor was I complaining or saying that it shouldn't happen (that would be down to the views of members as a whole, and admin) ... and I equally presume that I don't need your permission to observe that something has been happening that I don't recall having seen here in some 14 years.

We've had plenty of 'heated debates', including some which have 'turned nasty' and/or become 'personal attacks'. However, that's a bit different from 'social media stuff' (which I have absolutely nothing against, for those who enjoy it, but ideally 'in the right place').

The serious point is that if people come here hoping to obtain advice about electrical matters and find a 'playground', they may possibly 'decide against it' and maybe get on with whatever they're doing without getting any advice at all.

So you're still unsure whether to join or not..... ;)
I was sure of my answer to that question a very long time ago

One way of distinguishing a serious technical forum from a 'playground' is to look at the speed and brevity of responses to posts.
