American national interests are what matter with Trump and of course, his ego.
Russia in geopolitical terms is more important than Ukraine to America.
So, it's Ukraine that goes under the bus but if Putin doesn't play ball with Trump and give him a deal that suits America, he may just give Ukraine even more support than Biden did.
America's big target is China, anything that can help isolate China is advantageous, that is why Trump is offering to give Putin territory and end sanctions, he wants to draw Russia into America's sphere of influence and away from China.
