It is what it is.
We could all continue for another year and be in the same place just with a few hundred thousand more people deleted from this mortal coil.
The other option is for the west to put boots on the ground and face the serious possibility that in a few years time there will be a few billion deleted from this mortal coil.
Deals will be done and agreements made.
This is how it's always been.
The consequences of full out war are absolutely catastrophic for everyone involved (that's everyone in the world) in these modern times, and everyone knows it.

When this is settled, America and its allies will have control of western Ukraine and Russia the east.
They'll have a big area of no man's land in between.
Russia won't invade.
America won't invade.
Threats and insults will be bandied about every now and then to keep up appearances, until the next time.
The nuclear deterrent really does work.

Starmer has not ruled out sending troops to Ukraine, seems like Trump has come up with another daft idea to make the rest of those who need to, to step up.

That's the bit you can't guarantee. And are removing all the safeguards if you restrict Ukraine from joining NATO

Putin is currently very weak, a strong American leader could force him to back down.

He’s not weak at all. Certainly not weak enough to need to cave in. I agree he must be stopped at nearly all costs.
Trump seems to have deliberately created a crises to get others to act.
Much like the crisis he created in Gaza, which for the first time since 1967 has other Middle Eastern neighbours scrambling for a solution.

I think he is reeling Putin in, hinting at all manner of success for Putin, but then he will hit Russia hard economically, there will only be one winner, and that will be the USA. Putin will probably get a bit of land but its economy will be crippled
Putin only survives with 100$ a barrel oil prices, the US will flood the worlds market with gas and oil, drill bay drill, oil will be 50$ a barrel and Russia is finished
(so will be our atmosphere, but that's for another thread)

I agree with some of that. But not the figures on oil. US need $50 just to break even on tight oil.
Noticed this morning that Keir has reiterated the UK standing with Ukraine re their joining of NATO, so it's going to be very interesting to see how this all plays out over coming days/weeks.
