Its not about liking or disliking them. America has a key interest in a strong europe because of-the threat from russsian expansion. Right wingers and MGAS are pursuing a contradiction. On tne one hand blaming europe for not paying enough to Nato, whilst simultaneously weakening and destabilising it by leaving us out of negotiations. Being the only real military superpower has brought the US huge benefits. It will be interesting to see whether this holds as they withdraw from the world.
