I didn't see that. But I don't really follow the news. I thought the Aid budget was 0.5% GDP and the increase in defence was 0.2% GDP. So that should leave 0.3%?

1) end of affordable care act means less people can access healthcare
2) end of forcing pharmas to provide meds at affordable prices, insulin has already increased in price
3) import tariffs will increase consumer prices
4) cancelling USAID means loss of contracts to USA farmers etc
5) deporting undocumented migrants means shortage of key workers like farming causing price rises
6) Trump won’t reverse mandated access to abortions, leaving women with less healthcare freedoms.
7) sacking of federal staff means people lose their jobs including veterans


All of those will make people’s lives worse not better.

Very confusing! But AFAICS, it doesn't mean there is no overseas aid left. The figure quoted everywhere is 0.3% GDP now for aid, down from 0.5%. It looks more like sleight of hand (a bit like Gordon Brown).

The Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) think-tank said: "An extra 0.2% of GDP is around £6 billion, and this is the size of the cut to the aid budget. Yet he trumpeted a £13bn increase in defence spending. It's hard to be certain without more detail from the Treasury, but this figure only seems to make sense if one thinks the defence budget would otherwise have been frozen in cash terms."
