Gland for Twin and Earth

Hi folks,

Can anyone recommend a suitable gland for T+E cable? Want to feed a length of it into a conduit but add in a bit of protection from moisture. I’ve heard you can gland the open end of conduit by using a female adapter, but I’ve also heard that standard glands don’t close tightly around T+E.

Looking for black glands as conduit will be black.

Most of what that search revealed were grey glands. I need black!

Thanks. Doesn’t say if those are for 1.5mm T+E but I’m sure a google search will get me the cable diameter. Hopefully that sort of insert is universal!

Go into a local independent electrical wholesaler (not one of the big ones) the people who work in the small ones usually know what they are talking about and will probably have some in stock.

If it's in a location where moisture will be present, T&E is almost certainly the wrong cable to use.

As a last resort,there's always black paint.

Didn't read all the question, just use a Male conduit adapter into a whiska box, stopping the conduit short then using a stuffing gland will look rubbish.

Why do you think T+E is affected by moisture?

My experiment which I periodically mention, involving a few metres of T+E (plus some other cable types) submerged in brine has now being going for over 11 years, with no adverse effect on the cable yet detectable. I also have some in-service ('unprotected' - not even against UV) T+E on the outside of my house which has been there for at least 40 years,

I know it’s the wrong cable to use but it wasn’t my choice. The light I am replacing was here when we moved in and it has always looked a bit of a bodge job. Whoever installed it either didn’t know that T+E should not be used outside, knew but didn’t care, or knew and cared but was ordered to use it anyway by someone else!

Sorry I think there’s a misunderstanding here - I AM planning to use a male adapter into a Wiska box. The gland is for the OTHER end of the conduit where the T+E comes out of the garage from under the soffit. I will feed it into the conduit but don’t want to just leave the end of the conduit open.

Oh, could you use another whiska box that end and push it up to the soffit then the twin and earth can poke through the rubber cable opening thing?

As I understand it, there hasn't always been the case.
