In that case, I suppose I would need to re-direct the question to 'them' - who maybe had some good reason for writing that..

I think that most of us have seen many examples of situations in which, "acceptable2 or not, T+E constantly or repeatedly exposed to water for long periods without any problem - and I very much doubt that you are an exception to that.

Conversely, I have never heard, and certainly never seen, a situation in which (mechanically undamaged) T+E had come to any harm, or experienced any 'problems', because it had 'got wet'. Have you?
 
... and, as I've said, some remains in satisfactory service after many years or decades - and I would be very very surprised if some is not still be installed today :)

Yep, there is quite a bit here too. No problem at all, no degradation.
