You can have zero return i.e. wall thickness as long as you are prepared to pay for it, i.e. the SE fees and potential goal posts.
I once worked out that having a (min) three brick external return v's having zero returns and engineered goal posts, structural beam bolted above, labour, fees and faff - the difference was upwards of £3k
Interestingly, all the houses and buildings from 1930 - 1980 with no or minimal returns - and no calculations, are still standing. Must be millions of them pesky returns just standing there without moving.
