Hi All

Anyone experienced the changing/repair of Anglian Door Flag Hinges?
My 20yr+ conservatory door upper hinge snapped when I opened the door and fortunately I managed to catch and shut it again before the bottom hinge went. I hate to think what could have happened if one of my grandchildren had opened the door.
Its a double door arrangement with 2 hinges per door and found online the subject repair kit.
Original hinges are not available apparently as I couldn't find anything online as Anglian website only offered door accessories so this kit offers a fix.
Excellent YouTube instructions, but like life itself, nothing goes as smoothly as the video.
Tamper proof screws not mentioned and after failing miserably with HSS drill bits, I ended up grinding off the hinge plate from the door.
Fortunately the hinge itself was secured with standard screws, but the elongated pins came away from the hinge and remained stuck in the outer frame.

At this stage and before I could fit the new hinge, the clouds rolled in and gave me the excuse to wrap things up for the day.
The door is currently fitted and locked (key stowed away from grandchildren) with only the old bottom hinge still in place.

Hopefully things will go a little more smoothly tomorrow as I know now what to expect.

Cheers
Doug

Surely you could pull the pins out with pliers if I understood correctly?

As for the security screws I've used eazi ours before but it's rare to see them, only ever on these old Anglian and Coldseal doors

I managed to remove the broken hinge. Ended up using grinder to cut slots in tamper proof screws and the pins to aid their extraction.
The replacement hinges come with x2 packing pieces but the video is not clear as to which one to fit.
Weather is rain for next few days so plenty of time to ponder over it before removing the door completely to change bottom hinge.

The hinge repair paper instructions refer to 'Heel & Toe' if the doors don't align properly.
The double doors are currently shut and locked with the old hinges so hopefully it will not be an issue.

The different thickness packers are to pack the hinge off the frame to suit the offset between the frame face and the door face, you may not need any or you may need to use both it all depends on the offset

I've now managed to change the 2 hinges on the opening door and amazingly it aligns/locks without too much adjustment.
Drilling the new holes using paper templates were a bit of a pain as the new holes were very adjacent to the existing holes, which made it tricky controlling the drill bit as it tended to drift to an existing hole.
Taking a break until the next dry day to change hinges on the other door.
Door is bloody heavy though, thankfully the missus is happy to help as she has only been giving me grief for a year or two about the manky hinges ;)

Thats why I always use specific hinge jigs and if a jig isn't available for an old hinge like your Anglian/Coldseal type then I'll upgrade to a Trojan patriot plus, strong heavy duty with loads of adjustment 3 ways available in 16/19/22mm offsets with spacers to get inbetween those sizes too, I can do 6 hinges on a set of frenchdoors in 2 hours including fine adjustment afterwards, free hand it'd take an hour per hinge

Fortunately my task is a one off DIY effort. Taking my time to get it right first time. :)

Well done good stuff
Hot day today and noticed doors would slightly scuff the frame when opening/closing. Assuming due to expansion in the heat, so readjusted slightly.
One bottom hinge (vertical adjustment screw) was quite tight compared to the top hinge, so again assumed all the weight is on the bottom hinge.
Adjusted both so that they appear to share the weight.
Doors now closing correctly. Probably scuff again when the frames contract overnight.
No doubt there will be an optimum position of all adjustments to be found eventually by trial and error. :giggle:
