Any advice on hiring scaffolding

Looking for any tips. We need some scaffold to work on 2 storeys. As roofers are hard to find in this area it seems the scaffold may be up a while. I'm sure that'll add to costs but will an extra month or two make a big difference?
Any other advice would be handy. Like prices, what I should ask for or look out for etc.

Tip #1- offer cash...

A mate of mine is a pointer, he probably has 10-12 lots of scaffolding per year. I normally get him to arrange the scaffolding for me when I am doing exterior decorating. However, one time, his prefered company was too busy. I only need a single lift (terraced house) to reach the facia and soffit boards. I contacted the first google search result, they wanted £700 plus VAT! Spoke to a plasterer mate in a pub, got the scaffolding for £250 cash. The only downside was that the company was so small that they insisted that I could only have it for 2 weeks.
