Trumps blinks and caves in to China

Sorry Old Bean, "build cost" is not direct labour cost

Poor old gas112 is so clueless he doesnt know the difference between direct labour cost and production cost

you are completely wrong if you think an ipad only costs $10 to build

material costs of an ipad are around 50% of the retail sale price

so the "build cost" is a significant part of the manufacture

Its ok Old Bean I accept you apology for being clueless
component cost is not part of the labour build cost do try and understand that the production cost is split into various factors

So 30 percent on a 1 million dollar machine producing hundreds of millions of products. Yeah those few cents are going to make one helluva difference. But it's not a new 30 percent is it as pre past few months us already had tariffs
you really are clueless

if Apple could make things cheaper in America why has it been reshoring manufacture of its products in places like Mexico, Vietnam etc

factory costs, energy costs, management costs, overhead costs are all dramatically more expensive than China

oh and where do so many of ipad components come from...............
so give us a breakdown of where the parts come from.
Have a wee watch of denso`s video to see where parts are sourced from

now quote me where i said they could make them cheaper in the US so please stop lying and making things up

oh dear an attempt at a strawman to hide your embarrassment :ROFLMAO:

come on lets see you show the evidence where the "build cost" (your words) is $10

I wonder when these analysts talk about an iPhone selling for $3000-$3500 if it was manufactured in the USA, is that the cost if all the components are also manufactured in the USA. I would imagine it must be to get to that price. It is all very complicated.

Looks like

what is strawman about pointing out you do not understand how production costs are broken down in to sectors

Tear down analysis is not the best way to assess costs. I recall a few years back MCN did a tear down analysis on a £7k bike and concluded it cost £35k to build.

You only have to look at Apple's financials to know its not costing them 50% in raw materials to make their products.

Other analysts put manufacture cost at half of that $3500, Either way manufacture in the US is unlikely to happen but $3500 is a massive stretch.
