I'll ask again. All those people that create those things you enjoy/use to enhance your life - why should the software developers not get paid what they ask? You're happy to pay for the computer the software runs on, and subscribe to the electricity and network it relies on.
Why do you not want to pay for the software that makes it useful?

I used to deliver animal feeds and one poultry farm we always had to go and find the site manger to tell us which bin to pump the feed into.
The doors were always open and the noise and stench of the creatures in the cages was overwhelming.
But there were always a few birds stood loose inside the doorways and they just didnt have the will or sense to step outside to freedom in the sunshine and fresh air.
I now know them as Microsoft Users.![]()
I'm quite happy for those who want to pay every year for MS Office. I'll stick with LibreOffice, thank you.
It's value to the user, depends to a large extent on how much use they can make of it. A big corporation, or a writer, might get plenty of use out of it, so the £85 is worthwhile, covered by the profits they make from its use. Someone, who just uses it for a rare letter of complaint to their MP/councillor, etc., cannot justify the £85. MS, is a vast, and highly profitable company, making billions. As a start-up, the used many dirty tricks, to put competitors out of business, so they could screw the maximum funds, out of their customers.

What is your point?Someone, who just uses it for a rare letter of complaint to their MP/councillor, etc., cannot justify the £85
Tell me more about your life, I'm betting I won't have to listen for long before I discover you purchasing some product or service from a sizeable corpAgain Im stumped as to why people insist on chaining themselves down with huge corporations-is it loyalty, apathy, ignorance?

Hotmail yesDo you have a Hotmail or outlook email address?
They have the online version of office to use for free

Violation of the licensing terms, btw; not something to recommendThey were single licenses from company mass purchases. They worked fine.
Be aware LibreOffice and OpenOffice will not cope with the fancier MS features. At least they used not to.
Nor will Google's "word" processing function.
Nor will MIcrosoft's Web version.
I sent someone a WORD form to fill in and he couldn't deal with it.
365 family version is not expensive for what you get, imho.. Adobe would rinse you for it.
I used to use £5 versions from ebay. They were single licenses from company mass purchases. They worked fine.
The last I had was Office 2019 I think, Used it for years until I needed a 365 excel feature.
