There was some mobile phone footage last night which appeared to show the blokes car being attacked by some yobs prior to the carnage. From that it looks like he got scared and tried to flee them, straight into the revellers. However, other footage shows that it looked like he was deliberately aiming the car at people.

A white 50 yr old male cannot possibly be a member of a terror organisation?
Not impossible even if the authorities are claiming otherwise.

Even if the person has no links to an organisation they may be acting on their behalf under duress eg their family has been threatened or they have been ensnared looking at indecent images by the group and are threatened with exposure.

Funny how a white man could be mentally ill or have been forced to do it under duress, but others are just plain terrorists for whom those would just be excuses.

Having seen some of the footage, it looks more like a driver that got their car into the wrong place, panicked and then tried to escape rather than a deliberate attempt to hurt as many people as possible using the car as a weapon.

If not deliberate, then surely it must have been someone who was under the influence of something or having some sort of medical episode. Otherwise before you even reached the huge crowd of people you would surely realise 'I shouldn't be driving through there' even if it's a route you want to take. You would stop your vehicle and reassess.

I even wondered if it could be a rival fan.

And I agree with the OP, have the police now set a precedent by quickly giving a basic outline of the person? Will they now do this for every major incident like this, regardless of skin colour etc. I think not, otherwise things could kick off big time, which is exactly what they're trying to mitigate.

The media will have been asked really soon after to mention that the suspect does not fall into the usual categories -it could be anyone from any group or demographic.

The number of people posting so far who seem desperate for the person arrested to be muslim or a terror-plotter is a sad indictment oftheir constant need to express their racism and or xenophobia.

Looks more like he lost control of the car to me in a panic. Why would he have stopped and only started moving again when people started hitting his car and opening the car door? Also sounded like he was sounding the horn. It would be pretty intimidating if you'd somehow found yourself having driven into that sort of crowd. I sincerely hope that i'm right and that this isn't some kind of terrorist of football related attack.

about 14 years ago i witnessed such an incident from 10 feet away.
a range rover went straight through a crowd of about 100 england fans bouncing over the bodies as he did so . I was amazed at how few serious injuries there was a few broken limbs and a ripped off ear , Bloody horrendous to watch

A terrible tragedy and I hope everyone survives without any life changing injuries. Apparently the driver was a 53 year old white British man. I do wonder though, that if it had been a 20 year old immigrant or Muslim driving the car, whether the authorities would be as quick to let everyone know their age, colour and nationality.

I think the code now is if we aren't told he's white then he must be black (or non-white at least).

Yesterday morning I bumped into a neighbour who was out walking to the local shop, he said:

"I am really really tired, yesterday I went to see the Anfield match, the first time Ive been to the ground since the mid 80s when I moved away, Im in my 70s now and I first went to Anfield in the late 60s, this is the last time I will be going most likely"

and then yesterday I saw the news of what happened on Monday




Awful, just awful for the people involved, not just the injured but those that watched the carnage, some will now go on to suffer PTSD

Sometimes it seems like you cant do anything joyful without a tragedy happening after.
