No the people putting lives at risk are those providing a sh*t boat to cross the channel illegally on and those who are willing to get on board. if the state has a duty of care, it should stop them, if it doesn't it should turn them back. Once people are turned back, nobody will pay the smugglers.

I've said in previous threads we should have thrown money at this. Let's face it the government p1ss billions away on numerous other things that are a waste of time, why haven't they directed a few billion to this? They should have:

- Introduced multiple patrol boats in our waters, as close to France as legally possible.
- Introduced drone technology to compliment the boats.
- Introduced pick up vessels.
- Built holding centres, no not with tents, but with basic clean safe accommodation.
- Hired many more processing staff to review and process claims.

So what if the above cost a few billion to run over a few years. It would have sent a much stronger message to both the gangs and those trying to get in that the UK is probably better left alone in terms of trying to enter illegally.

A lot of that has already been done.

Reducing successful claims would be important. We are an outlier in Europe and that is a pull factor.

At the moment the smugglers get a 5* taxi services. Most are picked up at the UK territorial limit and there have been a few occasions of other vessels not receiving help because life boats were on Uber duties.
