Pensioner Winter Fuel Payment - I just don't get it?

One day, a government will abolish it, at the same time pointing out that they are increasing the basic rate of pension by an equivalent amount greater than inflation.

Really, the ratchet has been pushing the state pension up, faster than inflation, for years, so they could have done it already.

Paying extra money to people who don't need it, and to people who are better off than younger working people struggling on less, has always been silly.
my pension has gone up by more than 24% over the last 3 years as its compound something like 8.6/10.1 and 4.1
and as said the youngsters who are struggling and cant afford mortgages are paying for it

but she would need it if she was living alone in her own house paying for the odd bit of personal care.

If only she had an asset worth £1 million?

People who can lay their hands on lots of money can pay high care costs. People who can't, can't.

Spending money is not an indicator of need.
People who have paid lots of tax all their lives, now pay more tax. Next they will means test the state pension and add the TV licence to council tax.

Oh dear Reform voters are most upset….Keir Starmer has ruined a key argument.

It is good we have a responsible government that listens to the people, that is the sign of democracy

Incentivising people to be net contributors and avoiding policies that result in fewer tax paying jobs might be a good idea.

Every responsible economist acknowledges that the WFP is stupid. But it was politically tone deaf to scrap it. Labour have learnt a good lesson.

Do you really believe that? I would suggest the Labour government saw their figures take a nose dive, suddenly realised how unpopular they had become, and had therefore been forced to do a U turn.
