Really, the ratchet has been pushing the state pension up, faster than inflation, for years, so they could have done it already.
Paying extra money to people who don't need it, and to people who are better off than younger working people struggling on less, has always been silly.
and as said the youngsters who are struggling and cant afford mortgages are paying for it
