Nobody is really happy as Larry. Once a country has them you cannot do anything about it. Iran is in its infancy developing a nuclear program, it needs stopping before it is too late and they become another "nothing you can do about it".

Was anything done to stop South Africa getting nuclear weapons?

They were of course helped by a rogue state that refused to sign up to the NPT - israel !

South Africa dismantled it's weapons after a diplomatic/economic solution and then signed the NPT itself...

So if you are saying that there's "nothing you can do about it", then look no further than the states that have aided and abetted proliferation and deal with them!
