accident on cherry picker, is it user error

A harness is to stop you getting out of the basket it needs to be a short lanyard
 
I think it was a good thing that he wasnt wearing one, right or wrong, I think he would have sustained some serious injury wearing one, the bloody thing went upside down. I would sooner take my chances of being thrown out of it in that situation.

It once again is a bit of a problem. The lanyard has to be long enough to reach all areas of the basket but sometimes can be very difficult to work in a short lanyard. We have fall arrest systems that we now wear instead,

Then you need a rescue plan and if you work alone can be awkward

Youknow the score with health and safety, it is all a great idea, but the practicality of it can be like tying one hand behind your back. It is always when something unfortunate like this happens when it suddenly becomes sensible.
 
When you work all day in these things, you get very complacent with them and take. risks that you know you shouldn't just to get the job done

Yes often I forget. I got caught out a few times and have had to ask people passing by to ring our office
 
My cherry picker actually caught fire and I lost all control. That was particulaly nasty and frightening.
