Hello,

We are building a conservatory with a warm roof and Just wondering what the construction method would be for the dwarf wall.

Footings are 9 courses below dpc so it'll be 2 courses of trench block and 3 courses of red engineering class B bricks.

Should the cavity start from the top of the top trench block or can the slab go to the inside of the red class B's and then start the cavity from the slab?

Also would 250mm be enough for the cavity wall?

Thanks

Proper footings? Cavity wall? Warm roof?

Are you sure this is a conservatory?

Perhaps you need to go back and be quite sure of what you are trying to build.

The items listed are not standard in a normal conservatory, if you are going to the expense of building them in, then call it what it is, a heavily glazed extension.

It's definitely a conservatory but just has a warm roof, it'll be an UltraRoof380 from Ultraframe

The floor slab should be independent unless you are reinforcing it, in which case it bears on the inner leaf and the cavity starts 225mm below ground level.

250mm insulated cavity is enough for a conservatory mainly of glass.

So does that mean we can't have 2 courses of trench block then?

Footings are 9 courses below dpc but the last 2 courses are above ground level.

Structurally, that original arrangement will work, if reinforcement on any suspended slab is included. It's the detailing that matters.

You need to be mindful of damp coming up from the ground, and coming down within the cavity, and how the inner leaf and floor are protected from damp in the structure and water held in the cavity.

Also frost protection of the wall - which should be 150-225mm below the ground surface. Are trench blocks frost proof?

The slab DPM will go up to and up the inside of the class b's

The trench blocks are frost proof

Where will the slab be suspended?
