Have always had mixed success locking doors , usually lift handle and partially turn key which locks doors but does not allow for key removal.
Tonight after a bit of lubrication I investigated and realised if the handle is rapidly lifted it locks doors without any key turn ( unlocks normally with key).
Is this an options with some locks?
(Our other patio doors require door handle to be lifted and key turned to lock )

My next door neighbour had locking mechanisms like this on their french doors and they were quite old perhaps 90s doors, seen only a few other instances of these in my 35 years in the trade, don't see these at all now

Thanks Crank, explains the wife’s difficulty in locking them , she would wrench the handles up and then turn the key thinking it should lock , but was unlocking them .
What’s the correct sequence to unlock ? Seems to take a bit of rattling before key will turn to unlock .

To unlock is the same as most upvc mechanisms, turn key till it clicks the lock over and push handle down, as you say its the lock thats slightly different in that you just have to lift the handle and it locks automatically. If your having difficulty it locking or turning the key to unlock then its likely the door has dropped or if french doors then either one - slave or master doors are out of alignment possibly requiring toe and heeling or a bit or tweaking with the hinges IF they're adjustable

Thanks , may look at master door hinges as it get far more use than the other (slave) door.

Hinges seem fine , noticed even with door open the centre hook does not fully retract, stays out around 10mm , worn mechanism?

Yes very much so, depending on the mechanism you could potentially just replace the gearbox

It’s a lockmaster bar in the door , looked at a video , seem to be I remove bar , Philips head screws, (the torx head appear to hold in the lock)? And the replace with something like this.
How do I ensure I get correct replacement ?
Are there key measurements?

Only really the 35mm backset and the 92mm PZ

But make sure the replacement gearbox has the hook going the same as your original, some hooks point up, some down, its an easy oversight
