I have just been reading her self-pitying whinge in the Telegraph. Everybody is to blame but her. She is even claiming that one of the reasons she pleaded guilty is because she wouldn't have been able to get a fair trial.

The only legitimate complaint I can see she might have is why was she held on remand rather than bailed. I don't know how common that is for the particular charges she was facing and in these particular circumstances. We need to remember that the criminal justice system has two purposes. Punishment and deterrence.

Interestingly, in the Telegraph she says there are several others in prison who did similar things but who haven't been championed by the right in the same way she has.

Punishment we’re good at; prison sentences have increased dramatically over the years - deterrence we’re not so good at. In fact your average man on the street probably wouldn’t think it works at all. But in this case it probably has made the right wing twarrerati think twice about calling for riot arson murder znd mass deportation for a group that had nothing to do with the crime.

One of the things that has always puzzled me about this case is that the day after the Southport murders, the police announced that the murderer was a British citizen born in this country, but the right wingers still kept trying to burn down the hotels housing asylum seekers.
