Flag dynamics

Munroast I can understand, but you?
Many decades ago when, as a student in London I managed to get into many Proms (quite often 'free tickets' for students), including a few 'Last Nights', on the Last Night we were given 'at the door' (Presumably 'by the BBC') Union Flags to wave - so I was suspecting (probably wrongly) that even today, the flags being waved by people were probably ones they were 'given at the door' (again, presumably by the BBC), rather than flags they had brought with them.

I don't know about the ratios, but last year, and the year before, there were masses of EU flags being waved.
I hadn't noticed/remembered that.
And every year, the usual suspects (e.g. GB News, The Express, The Daily Mail) get in a froth about it, and say EU flag wavers are traitors, and how they should be thrown out of the venue, and blame the BBC for people who are not part of the BBC offering EU flags to concert-goers.
Again, I was not aware of that.

I take it you haven't seen the news reports of the hamas personel flying the same flag you display alongside their headbands.

I take it you haven't seen the news reports of right wing thugs flying the Union and/or England flag.

You can't have it both ways.

my town has a small hostel that houses people who are seeking asylum. Recently, around 70 people draped themselves in the flag of St George, festooned the streets in the night, and came from across the country for a march towards the hostel. The local people tried to defend these vulnerable few. We gathered with our own flags to signify solidarity and compassion. We held banners saying that our town did not want racists terrorising refugees. We tried not to engage with them directly.

In the seemingly interminable time before the police arrived, we were screamed at, pushed, called filthy child molesters and scum. Women were threatened with rape, and aerosols sprayed towards women with children to “wipe out their stink”. Posters were ripped from our hands, and young children wearing flags were encouraged to scream obscenities. They were spitting out that asylum seekers were scum, vermin, child molesters and that we were going to be knocked down and smashed.

-------

In our village, many people are intimidated by the racists who have put flags on pretty much every lamp-post and there are vigilantes confronting anyone who tries to take them down. Many villagers are extremely angry with this overt racism and the threat of reprisals. Many are frightened and fearful.

Some have been openly abused and videos posted on social media – this appears to be in the far-right playbook. It’s clear evidence of criminality, but that doesn’t seem to matter. Sadly we don’t have the numbers prepared to stand up to what, here at least, appears to be a small minority. Individuals who have taken a stand have been assaulted, and accused of being traitors and unpatriotic.

So its clear from my unanswered question that morqthana has some sort of a personal interest/ connection in Palestine he cares not for anyone else’s plight just the the one that affects his religion or family.

But you haven't answered my question
You cant have it both ways

I wish i could help you harry but i have never done anything with flags, sounds a bit stupid but possibly you try putting something like a light bamboo stick or something like that at the bottom of the flag to prevent it wrapping around?

Thank you for your help the other day.

That's just plain silly!

For a start, we were already members of the EU at the time of the vote. You appear to be suggesting that we should have left the EU even if literally no-one (including members of government, from PM down, who all have votes) had voted to leave. Had that been someone's plan/intention, there clearly would have been no point in any voting!

Even if we had been starting from scratch, voting on whether we should join the EU for the first time, if literally 100% (including any aspiring dictator, who would presumably have a vote) voted to join, that would leave literally no-one to have a different view, let alone 'implement' it!

It seems a little ironic that someone should be writing the above whilst displaying a flag belonging to an EU Member Sate that has not yet even felt it necessary to have a vote on continued membership!
Nothing silly about it. I'm just stating that anything other than true National sovereignty is fundamentally unlawful, illegal and Treasonous.

Er - I don't have a problem with the flag wrapping, rather it was (intended) as a technical discussion of just why it isn't a problem, and how it always manages, somehow, to unwrap itself. Since I began the discussion, I have observed it wrap itself up to three times around the pole, but it always manages to unwrap itself, by at least one turn, each time the wind drops.

The stick in the flag is what NASA did for the one on the moon

Nothing wrong with dictatorship.
It is often said that the 'best' form of government would be a "benevolent dictatorship". However, the problem is that, essentially by definition, if one has a dictatorship one has no choice (nor any prior knowledge) of who the dictator is, or how 'benevolent' he/she is ... and, looking around, many/most of the most obvious dictatorships in the world are probably anything but 'benevolent'

That continues to be silly.

For a start, what's the difference between "unlawful" and "illegal", and in relation to who's laws would it be "treasonable". If a particular 'state'/whatever chose to have something other than "true national sovereignty" then that state of affairs would presumably be lawful/legal under their laws.
