Flag dynamics

You will need a lie down when Nigel get's in power. There will be none of this making excuses and blaming others.

Since his only campaigning method is to blame others, I wonder what excuses he'd make if he got into power and, surprise surprise, people's lives don't improve after he's punished the ones he claimed were to blame.

They will have trouble recruiting people to go up 10 mtre columns on a night. It is not for the faint hearted,
Presumably they'd not be employing people with no experience of using cherry pickers?

OMG, thought they had no money...

The move comes amid increasing confrontations between pro and anti-flaggers, with ... anyone trying to take them down facing abuse and challenge.

You have to wonder what sort of people are so keen on expressing their pride in Britain, and so keen to virtue-signal their belief in British values that they would abuse people taking down flags.

It's almost as if they are intrinsically aggressive.

We have tried taking them down, you quickly get surrounded by an angry mob, we gave up and left them as people are very patriotic towards them,

They will need a full IPAF certification inc harness and working at height.

So the chances of the people they recruit being so unused to the work that that they go weak at the knees working 10m up are...?

Birmingham council will be using people like you, who fancy a bit of extra cash in their pockets as Christmas approaches.

What sort of people turn into angry mobs when flags are taken down?

Why, it's almost as if what they regard as patriotism is to form an angry mob to prevent things they don't like.

We have experienced people who obtain their IPAF and literaly wet themselves as they are not normal cherry pickers, these are mounted on the roof of our vehichles and sway about a lot. It is a different experience to a normal cherry picker.

Other aspect to consider is you are on busy roads where 40 ton lorries come thundering past you only a foot away from the side of your van, you know how your car rocks when that happens, now elevate yourself to 10 metres and feel the sway, you think you are tipping over. Quite un-nerving to say the least, your hoist doesnt have time to stabilise before the next one thunders past you.

When I used to do street lighting I'd change the bulbs and my mate would drive me along without me coming down and that was 12m posts....

I'm sure you're right, and I'm not trying to downplay any of the unnerving aspects of doing the work.

I'd just be very surprised if they took on inexperienced chancers to do the job. For the faint-hearted I'm sure it's not, but I wonder how much trouble they will have in finding people not of faint heart.

I think they will struggle.

I've seen that being done.

And thought to myself "I bet the Safety Elf would have a thing or two to say about it".
