Hi all,

I'm after some guidance for the most suitable products, I hope you can help.
I found a very similar thread but the "U-Can" recommended product is no longer available.
Basically the walls of my drain are crumbling and I now have a few damp dot-and-dab patches on the nearby wall .

I can see a lot of "mortar-in-a-tube" products on Amazon, but they seem to be for walls/DPC holes.
I'm obv wary of getting out the hammer and chisel and creating a much bigger job

P.S. that's a monkey nut, not anything more grim

Thanks for any advice you can provide!

Dan

It's difficult to tell with the close-up image, but is that gully collecting surface water from the surrounding area?

Mainly from the guttering downpipe, the kitchen sink, washing machine, downstairs bathroom sink.
It's also covering 5 or 6 sqm of concrete.
It can get quite a lot of water when it rains.

It needs a rebuild. Anything you pipe in there will delaminate and end up in the gully.

No wonder you can't get anyone in to do it if you are paying peanuts.

You do need to remove all loose stuff and any moss and plant life. Cover the gully with a cloth, bag or board and use either hammer and chisel or a jet wash.

Then you will need a sand and cement mix to renew the side flaunching. Sharp sand not building sand.

Or, look at some of the resin roof repair products such as acrypol or cromapol or similar. These are thick fibrous resin, brushed on and form a thick skin which is very sticky and wont crack.

I rebuilt mine similar, took all out and re built. One thing I have noticed with fast set cement - the blue circle make with the green circle - rapid set is yes it sets quick but takes much longer than normal cement to fully cure.
I would also mix in a water proofer additive to the mortar

If you add SBR to a cement mix, it becomes fast setting. It also becomes more water resistant, stronger and resistant to cracking.

Interesting - I knew about the SBR for feathering thin areas but didn’t know it had other proprieties too (y)
