i have non-fibre installed at the moment. the current cable is marked by the red line below (it comes from a phone pole to the right of the image)

i have full fibre coming on Tuesday. i would like the engineer to remove the old cable (and the mastersocket it attaches to) and install the new fibre cable following the green line, ie along my gutter and behind my downpipe

is this something engineers are able to do? it says they use ladders etc and that you can tell them where to put it so i hope it's the case!

While they may install the new cable as you desire, they are unlikely to remove the old cables as they are nothing to do with them.
You are able to remove them yourself.

The engineers are quite flexible. If you ask nicely they usually oblige, but they won't remove old cables that aren't theirs.

No, they will not/are not allowed to do that.

If the fibre comes across over head, from the pole. They will bring it down the outside wall, to ground level, to do the joint. Your router, will then be on the ground floor.

thanks everyone for the replies

does anyone know how Openreach fix cables to walls/render?

my existing cables were all fixed with these, leading to cracks in the render/paint so i'd like to avoid that this time...

My network began, pre-fibre, with the router in the loft, and phone cable coming in via the loft, fed down the inside - over head, from the pole. The original phone wire had come down the wall, and had constantly come adrift, flapping, and numerous faults. I had made it clear to the fibre provider, that was the only place I would accept a fibre install, into the loft.

The installer, when he arrived, at first said he couldn't bring it in via the loft, and put the router up there, but then agreed to when I said I would do without the fibre, unless it was via the loft.

When did mine they brought the new line to top of downpipe, and brought it down and tied to the back of the downpipe with cable ties.
The old copper line and back box was left as it was.

thanks all for the help! they located it on the top left of the house (by the hopper) and brought it down behind the downpipe, so i've a nice clean cable-free house now!
