Another 'error' over housing by a Labour cabinet member.

You'd think in this day and age, the civil service / the party itself would have a checklist for MPs for a number of reasonably-foreseeable scenarios.

Being promoted to the cabinet being one.

While Reeves is on the hook for this one, variants on such faux pas have happened with ridiculous regularity across all parties.
it would be nice to think those in charge of our economy, government, our future would be astute enough not to get caught out on such trivial matters.

I am not particularly bothered by her mistake, and a mistake I'm sure it was - but should the person running our economy be making these blunders.

If I used a letting agency to rent out my house I would expect them to advise me of any licences required.
Because I pay them for their serviced, I wouldn't expect to have to check that they had obtained the correct permits, license, etc.

Because the need for a licence for a rent property varies so much between local authorities, I would expect a local letting agency to be on the ball with the specific requirements of that local authority.

She already knew.

If your accountant made an error, are you still the one HMRC would hold accountable?

She already knew that a licence would be required for a house in Leeds, if her house was in Leeds and she let her house after February 2026.
Her house isn't in Leeds and I assume she let it out over a year ago.
Landlords must apply for a licence for a rented house in Leeds before it is occupied by tenants. While the exact licensing requirements depend on the property type and location, a major new selective licensing scheme for certain areas of the city is set to begin on February 9, 2026.

Check your facts.

Oh dear ...

plunged into fresh jeopardy today after it was revealed the Prime Minister's ethics adviser was looking at 'new information' over her 'illegal letting' row

UPDATE: Apparently the emails from her husband, in conjunction with the latest update from the letting agent (they've apologised for the oversight), are going to result in this being put to bed.

So she could be seriously affected by any rent re-payment to the tenants.
So she obviously didn't do it for financial gain.

Personally I wonder how much money is wasted on digging up dirt on members of the 'other' party.

She perfectly knew about landlord licence and smugly went on social media advocating its importance.
Then she rented her house without having a licence.
This is like the site manager going on and on about health and safety when working for someone else and then taking a job himself and having asbestos removed without even a mask.
Then of course there are people like you supporting criminals, terrorists, peadophiles and rapists as long as they're leftists.
Pathetic!

Hmm, so should they do it with the case concerning with Rachel.
I don't know the facts. What advise, if any, was given.

Did she follow it, or not.

Any inquiry will (should) take that into account and act accordingly.

Way too soon to know yet though
