Hey folks, this one is causing me some issue! I can't figure it out, I have a new dual outlet BG dimmer switch, to replace an old dimmer switch.

The old one has
LR - 2 red wires going into this.
C - 1 red wire going into this
LL - 1 red wire going into this

The new one has L1, squiggly symbol and L2 on each "block" (see pic)

It doesn't help that all wires are red (although I've noted their positions etc).

In terms of which way round, assuming the earth connector is at the top when fitted?

Thanks in advance!

The wire originally in C to the “squiggly” symbol.

Which is the common terminal.

LR to L1.

LL to L2.

You might need to swap the wires from L1 to L2 if you find out the switch operates in the wrong way.

Switch should be earthed too.

Depends on which side of the switch you want to use as it’s a two way.

Someone else may come along to illustrate a drawing, as I can’t be bothered to do it right in the morning.

Hold on - just noticed two wires at the LR terminal.

If the above don’t work try,

Permanent live might be at LR, hence the two wires.

So try putting LR into the squiggly terminal. (The middle terminal of the new switch)

C to L1.

LL to L2.

Got it, yes I'll be earthing it no issue there, not fussed which switch does which as it's just wall light and ceiling light so ill just remember which switch is which! :)

When you say L1 and L2 is it the same block or L1 from one block and L2 from the other block?

(When I tried using com wire in the squiggle yesterday one light was permanently on, the other didn't work, and the dimmers worked on neither)

Is the original a 2 gang, each one way. LR and LL being left & right

Does one of the switches switch 2 lights on? Maybe thats why theres 2 wires in LR

Imagine it as a triangle.

It will be in the same “block”

Okay so that clarifies that the wire in C of the original switch should go to L1.

So follow the second post.

Old.......new
C...........~ with a link to the next ~

LL.........one L1

LR.........the other L1

I think.

The original is just one for wall lights and one for ceiling light

The original is just one for wall lights and one for ceiling light
So it’s a 2 gang.

Try COM to ~

LR to L1

LL to L1 but on the other side.

Add a jumper to the other terminal at ~

Someone really needs to illustrate a drawing to make it clearer.

At first I thought it was a two way and not a two gang setup.

Dang.

Ok will try the above diagram.
I just did another test, which was

LR in L1 (2 wires)
Com into squiggly line
LL into L1

Result was, power on and off worked for ceiling light. No dimmer function, and wall lights not working.
