please could explain why you think it is laughableIt’s laughable that someone in a £3 million house pays more to have their bin emptied. It’s as laughable as it would be to charge them more for health care because they live in a big house.

I see we have a user who doesn't know that Council Tax is a Property Tax. He thinks it is a fee for use of local services.

So you don’t understand why Right Wing populist Farage, who would flog U.K. businesses, NHS etc to foreign private equity would be a threat to this countryIf you could give me convincing reasons why Trump, Russia and rw politicians are a threat to this country
We pay taxes to go towards police, prisons, armed forces.it is to protect the population, and our goverment is not doing that. It has no right to ask tax of anyone.
We have a problem in this country of 2 decades of wage stagnation whilst housing costs, energy costs, water, council tax etc have kept going upI tried to raise these before, but some folk seem to want to shout out "make the rich pay", regardless.

No.We have a problem in this country of 2 decades of wage stagnation whilst housing costs, energy costs, water, council tax etc have kept going up
And during that period more and more wealth has been sucked out of the economy in the form of assets.
We now have a situation where people’s wages are too low to live on……that’s the real problem.
What we need is higher wages for ordinary citizens not higher taxes for the wealthy.
I don’t understand why so many working people get tax credits…..isn’t that just subsidising employers
Complete balderdashThe principle function of a government is not to provide a national health service and not to provide a welfare state - it is to protect the population, and our goverment is not doing that. It has no right to ask tax of anyone. The biggest threat to our country blup, is our government.
err yes, those are all facts

they are all NotchyFacts™err yes, those are all facts
You couldn't be more wrong there.I see we have a user who doesn't know that Council Tax is a Property Tax. He thinks it is a fee for use of local services.
One has gone on foreign holidays every year - spent all their money abroad, and now lives in a modest house

Good postYou couldn't be more wrong there.
Yes it us another tax - but it's set locally, collected locally, and mostly goes to support local services. For whatever value of "local" applies to your council area.
As such, it is effectively a tax for local services used by a household.
Yes, that is a simplification, but it's a reasonable working description.
Now, as far as I'm concerned a wealth tax is just jealousy, or as I've seem suggested "look mummy, he's got something I want - go steal it for me".
For one thing, it takes no account of how the wealth was built. Consider two people (or couples), both doing similarvwork, for similar pay.
One has gone on foreign holidays every year - spent all their money abroad, and now lives in a modest house.
The other didn't splash out on lavish holidays, bought a "nice" house, paid off the mortgage by the time they retired.
Both now have similar incomes, yet one is expected a tax which appears to be punishment for now having a better home.
So what about someone earning a massive wage and buying a big house ? So what - they'll pay massive taxes, almost half of a lot of it. If they "gamble" and win big with shares to make their money - then they pay capital gains tax on nearly all of the gains.
